Blackle

Media Heap set up a nice reminder last year that small steps count. At blackle.com the lights are off, an idea they got from TreeHugger. They have now saved 472,290.538 Watt hours. While more and more people use LCD-monitors this wont matter as much as CRT-monitors, but on CRT one can actually save usage by using darkness. I like Media Heaps’ idea, its a nice way to remind us that we all can contribute to the environment.

That’s cool - now, if they would think of things like that over here, the world would tart to get better…
sigh….

That’a an amazing saving, but something I’d find difficult because I find reading print against a dark background very hard on the eyes. As you say though, it’s a great reminder that every little helps.

Really its a nice idea to save the energy as well as our nations economy…good one … such type of ideas may come ahead to save at least one house within the any core of world..

Great idea. For CRT is a great way to low power requirements.

And if everyone using less bright on LCDs monitors that would be another way to save more energy.

Keep good work

White against black will take some time to get used to, but if it helps nature why not? Good work and thanks for the tip.

I had heard of blackle.com (the eco friendly version of google), but now they have launched blackle games i dunno if any energy is saved, but atleast it doesnt hurt the eye, lol

There are around 16 different versions of “black google” online. The best one I’ve found is http://www.cleanblack.com. Cleanblack is the only version that allows you to change the text colors of the google search results. Try it yourself by going to http://www.cleanblack.com/theme/
