All pollution should count
Until now greenhouse gas emisions from container ships has not been counted, because of difficulties in calculating whos cape it should go under. The amount of greenhouse gas from container ships is much lower than from air and land transport but it should count.
Maersk - one of the worlds largest shippers, has calculated a release of 50 million tons of carbon dioxide annually, from 1000 ships sailing the north sea. That is as much as Denmark’s total release.
Picture then, that there are right now about 100.000 ships out there.
Some say that it would be unfair to count Maersk release in Asia, but the shippers has now been given until the end of 2008 to find a sollution to this, a system for calculating greenhouse gas emmisions from their cargoships.

When people write that winter in 2008 has been blisteringly cold so they don’t believe in global warming I just want to hit them! So many people are misinformed and the name “global warming” is a misnomer or if not that, sends the wrong message at least to people who couldn’t bother to understand what’s going on with the earth beyond the two words.
Are there stats on emissions by planes? There are so many these days and dozens of new no-frills players all the time- what’s their impact on the environment?
A lot of countries now are just playing the blame game. Countries are saying, well America isn’t doing it, so why should we? America is saying, China and developing countries aren’t doing it, so why should we? Then the developing countries are saying it would hurt their economy, so they can’t.
Really, it is all stupid. America thinks that somehow if they stop using oil, it will hurt the economy. ERm.. no it won’t USA! If oil suddenly disappeared, the oil companies will just start digging something else. Or if they go under, the billionaire owners will simply start another business and the workers get another job.
This is scary.
And we are doing nothing since years now, just talktalktalk…..
Humankind doesn’t want to learn, no?
